Martin T. Whitmer, Jr., co-founder of Whitmer & Worrall LLC, a government relations and strategic consulting firm, has been appointed to the Eno Transportation Foundation’s Board of Directors. Eno President and CEO Joshua Schank made the announcement yesterday during the launch of the Foundation’s latest book Intermodal Transportation: Moving Freight in a Global Economy and panel discussion on intermodal transportation and the global economy. “I am extremely pleased that Martin has joined the Board. He brings years of valuable experience that will be incredibly helpful as we discuss today’s vital transportation policy issues and move forward with the work of the Foundation,” said Eno Chair Lillian Borrone.
“It is an honor to join the Eno Transportation Foundation Board of Directors. Transportation is the engine of the American economy and Eno provides the thought leadership – and action – to ensure the continued development of our critical infrastructure moves forward,” Mr. Whitmer said.
Mr. Whitmer, who leads Whitmer & Worrall’s transportation and infrastructure practice, has worked extensively on many different public policy issues and earned a distinguished reputation as one of Washington’s leading government relations strategists for the transportation industry. Mr. Whitmer served as a senior official at the U.S. Department of Transportation in the Bush Administration where he was appointed by President Bush to serve as a Special Assistant to U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta (also an Eno Board member). Mr. Whitmer was then promoted to Deputy Chief of Staff where he served as a senior advisor to the Secretary on all matters relating to highway, transit, trucking, safety, energy and trade issues.
Prior to joining the administration, Mr. Whitmer served as Vice President of Government Relations for the American Road and Transportation Builders Association and as the Director of the Public-Private Ventures Division, which implemented laws and regulations to expand innovative financing tools and leverage federal dollars for transportation projects. He also served as the Republican Legislative Representative for the Laborers’ International Union of North America and worked for Sen. Phil Gramm (R-TX) and House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-TX).
