Gabe Pellathy, Principal

Gabe PellathyGabe Pellathy is a Principal at Whitmer & Worrall and leads the firm’s Trade and Tax Practice.  As a senior member of the firm, Mr. Pellathy assists with key client initiatives while successfully utilizing his extensive government, corporate and political skillset.  Prior to joining Whitmer and Worrall, he served in senior management positions at three global fortune 500 companies where he was frequently tasked with spearheading top political, legislative and policy priorities for these multinational companies.   He is a trade lawyer and served in senior positions at the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Trade Representative. Mr. Pellathy’ s broad and proven experience has enabled him to develop a strong policy background on issues related to international trade and tax, including U.S. - Canada relations, appropriations, business development, economic development incentives, export control policy, export financing, global supply chain, foreign direct investment, sustainability, energy and environmental policy.

Mr. Pellathy has experience interacting at the highest levels of federal and state government.  His government service includes five years as an attorney at USTR within the Executive Office of the President.  He then served as senior policy advisor at the U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security with regulatory, technology transfer and foreign investment responsibilities.  Mr. Pellathy also served as deputy director and chief of staff within the International Trade Administration of the Department of Commerce, managing a network of 1,600 employees in 260 offices across the globe focused on commercial diplomacy.  In this capacity, he assisted not only global multinational corporations, but small and medium-sized companies across numerous industry sectors on trade, market access and investment issues.  He also played an active role in advocacy and business promotion programs across 21 federal agencies.  Some of the industry sectors include services, energy, aerospace, automotive, chemical, steel, electronics hardware and software.

In addition to strong interagency experience, Mr. Pellathy has long-standing relationships on both sides of the aisle and legislative expertise in developing strategies and achieving results.  Recent examples include Mr. Pellathy’s work with the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the Self-Drive Act, the Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act, the Foreign Investment Risk Review Modernization Act, the National Defense Authorization Act, and legislation involving sustainability, science and technology workforce investment and appropriations.  Many of these legislative and public policy victories have required Mr. Pellathy to develop winning strategies to successfully motivate policymakers within both the United States Congress as well as Executive Branch agencies and the White House.

Mr. Pellathy is a Fulbright Scholar and holds a law degree from Cornell University and an undergraduate degree from St. Vincent College.
